After losing the Sangur by-poll election, the Mann government is under immense pressure due to the deteriorated law and order situation in the state. Four major incidents have raised questions about the functioning of Punjab Police and Intelligence.

When Capt. Amarinder Singh of the Congress party was removed, Charanjit Singh Channi was made the Chief Minister of Punjab, that time Dinkar Gupta was removed from the post of DGP of Punjab, and later according to the UPSC panel, VK Bhawra was appointed to the post of DGP.

Currently, there are rumblings in the police and government circles that the Bhagwant Mann-led government is dissatisfied with Bhawra's performance, particularly in view of the state's deteriorating law and order situation.
