With the arrival of AAP in Punjab, big changes in Punjab Police are expected in the coming time. The Punjab government is planning to introduce a police commissionerate system in Mohali to meet law and order and internal security requirements because of fast urbanisation.

The police commissionerate system was introduced in February 2010 in Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana. The proposal to introduce the same system in Mohali was pending for some time. Now, soon it is expected to approve the proposal.

At the end of May, Punjab is likely to get 4 new ADGPs and 4 new DGPs. Till now, 3 IPS officers namely, MK Tiwari, Rohit Chaudhary and Siddharth Chattopadhyay retired from the post of DGP. IPS VK Uppal will also retire on 31st May 2022. So, 4 posts will be vacant. These posts are expected to be filled by 1992 IPS officers Dr. Sharad Satya Chauhan, Harpreet Singh Sandhu, Gaurav Yadav and Kuldeep Singh.

Apart from them, 4 out of 9 officers of the 1997 batch will be selected for the post of ADGP. IPS officers Pawan Kumar Rai, Naunihal Singh, Arun Pal Singh and Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal might be the ones who can fill these posts.

With this, more transfers are expected in Punjab Police under the AAP government. Moreover, the already appointed officers might get shuffled as the government is closely monitoring their performance. To maintain law and order in Punjab, these transfers are taking place.
