
Top sources have informed that the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will himself be presenting the interim budget on February 1. They have rejected media reports suggesting that Arun Jaitley may skip budget presentation "on health grounds".
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is currently on a personal leave in US for a medical check-up.
On January 18, Jaitley while addressing a conclave via video conferencing suggested that steps should be taken keeping "larger interest of the economy" in mind.
Over last two weeks, media has reported that the government is working on two key 'big-ticket' measures. A tweaked version of "Bhavantar policy" may be brought-in which will ensure direct transfer of funds to farmers. The second measure may raise income tax slabs for the salaried class. In the run-up to general elections this year, such measure may send positive political signals among the voters.
