
Participating in the video conferencing, Additional DeputyCommissioner (D) Sandeep Kumar said that water conservation was an urgentnecessity in these days when most parts of the country were witnessing sharpdecline in the water table.
He said that the campaign was launched for sensitizing allthe stake holders on water conservation through setting up rain waterharvesting system, ground water recharge and management of household wastewater for reuse in agriculture.
He said the state government, led by Chief Minister CaptAmarinder Singh, was making concerted efforts to save the depletion ofgroundwater further either by plantation of saplings, increasing green coverand other measures.
Kumar informed that mostly the rainwater got wasted and iteither went into the sewage or evaporated which could be used to replenish thegroundwater.
He also called upon the youths to become ambassadors ofwater conservation in their localities where they live. He said that it is acollective duty for all of us to save this precious asset otherwise we wouldface dangerous consequences on the earth.
He said the wastage of water must be stopped at any cost andrequested farmers and the public to conserve water for their futuregenerations.
He added said that various Information Education andCommunication (IEC) activities would be carried out to sensitize the massesabout the importance of the conserving the rain water.
Additional Deputy Commissioner asserted that waterconservation should be a social responsibility of every individual so thatwater can be saved for future generations.
