Chief Secretary reviews progress of various programs via video conference

Led by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, the administration has become a leading district in Jalandhar Division by ensuring functional tap water connections to 54311 households in the last eight months against the target of 30500.

Participating in a video-conference presided over by Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner said that Jalandhar has a total of 2,32,122 households in a rural area and it has already covered 1,86,113 households.

Accompanied by MC Commissioner Karnesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Vishesh Sarangal, Deputy Commissioner said that the administration was given a target of functional tap water connections to 30500 households from April 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020, but it had ensured water connections to 54311 households, the highest among other districts of the Jalandhar division.

He said that the regular review of the program and concerted efforts by the executive engineers and Junior Engineers of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department have made this possible.

Ghanshyam Thori also told in the Video Conference that the administration would leave no stone unturned to cover all remaining rural households by August 2021 so that the district administration can ensure the potable water service delivery in adequate quantity to all households.

He said that the administration has already ensured piped water supply to all 1488 rural schools and 1391 Anganwari centres of the district.

Deputy Commissioner under phase-II of Smart Village Campaign, the district has sanctioned 2047 various types of development works worth Rs 131 crore out of 2013 works have been initiated already.

Similarly, Under Phase-II of the Punjab Urban Environment Improvement Program, tenders of 474 works worth Rs 120 crore have also been issued and 393 works have been initiated already, he informed.

Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was duty-bound to serve the people by ensuring the benefit of various schemes launched by the state government so that they do not face any sort of inconvenience.

He said that all development projects would prove game-changers to transform the lives and destiny of people residing in this town. He also warned officials any sort of callousness in serving the people was unwanted and undesirable.
