The counting of votes for the Jalandhar Byelection 2023 began on Saturday and Election Commission Trends showcased a tough fight between Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Sushil Rinku and Congress' Karmjit Kaur Chaudhry. However, as per Election Commission's official website, AAP's Sushil Rinku is leading as compared to other political parties' candidates including the Congress. Not only this, Sushil Rinku is leading by 42,416 (while writing) votes. As per EC (while writing), Sushil Rinku got a total of 216315 votes with AAP securing 34.08 percent of votes, while Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary got a total of 173899 votes with Congress securing 27.51 percent of votes. Furthermore, BJP is also showing positive signs in the Jalandhar Byelection 2023 as it has increased its vote percentage. BJP's candidate Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal got a total of 93813 with 17. 43 percent of votes. Notably, the voting for the Jalandhar Byelection 2023 took place on May 10, with a total voter turnout of 54.70 percent.
Coming to Jalandhar Byelection 2023 Results, if Sushil Rinku maintains his lead and goes on to win the lone seat, the AAP will break the Congress stronghold as its candidate had not lost the Jalandhar constituency since 2004. Congress had declared Karamjit Kaur as its official candidate for the upcoming By-polls. Karamjit Kaur is the wife of the late Santokh Singh Chaudhary who was previously the MP of Jalandhar constituency from 2014. Notably, it was the death of MP Chaudhary during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra which opened doors for the Jalandhar By-Election 2023.

The Jalandhar Byelection was vital for the AAP as Doaba was considered the fort of Congress in Punjab. In the last election, Congress had performed well in Doaba. In fact, out of 9 seats of the Jalandhar constituency, 5 were won by the Congress party.
