Recent news surfacing everyday indicate a startling rise in criminal activity in Jalandhar. Five incidents of robbery were reported in the district on Wednesday. Four of these occurred in urban areas. By April 23, 33 incidents had occurred in the district. The terror of robberies continues even while the election code of conduct is in place. Due to fear, people are avoiding even complaining and the police are filing FIR several days after the incidents. Here are 4 incidents that occured in urban areas of Jalandhar:

 

Deadly attack on grocery store manager (Urban Estate):

 

Unidentified robbers attacked a grocery store manager returning home on Sunday night in Jalandhar Urban State and robbed him of Rs 70,000 and an iPhone. Victim Shubham Sehgal, resident of Urban Estate Phase-2, said that the robbers hit him twice on the head with sharp weapons. When he tried to resist, the fingers of his left hand were also cut off. When he somehow reached his home, his family took him to a private hospital.

 

The hospital administration had informed the police of Station-7 about the robbery on Sunday itself. Police reached the spot and registered a complaint.

 

In the complaint given to the police, Shubham told that he is a manager in More Retail Private Grocery Company. On Sunday night, after collecting Rs 70 thousand from the company, he was going home on Activa. When he reached near the house, four robbers riding on two Splendor bikes surrounded him and attacked him. Meanwhile, the fourth accused looted the money and phone and all four accused fled from the spot. The police have not been able to trace any accused yet.

 

Mobile snatched from girl on the pretext of asking directions (Guru Gobind Singh Avenue)

 

A girl walking on Guru Gobind Singh Avenue was robbed by 2 miscreants on a bike. The robbers fled after robbing a mobile phone from the girl who was returning home on foot in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue on Tuesday evening. The robbery incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed at the spot. Two robbers came and first started asking the girl for directions. While she was giving directions, the young man sitting behind on the bike pushed her and snatched her phone. SHO Ravinder Kumar of Ramamandi police station said that they are investigating the case.

 

 

Elderly woman dragged by robbers on Activa in Mota Singh Nagar:

 

a 70-year-old woman was violently dragged along by a duo of purse snatchers in the posh Jalandhar colony, Mota Singh Nagar on Wednesday. As per reports, the 70-year-old woman was dragged along for about 20 meters by 2 purse snatchers on an Activa. 

 

According to the elderly woman, even after 24 hours of the incident, a case has not been registered by the police, who are waiting for a complaint. The victim, whose identity remains unknown for security purposes, decided against lodging a complaint in the police station due to her mistrust in the police’s ability to address these issues. 

 

 

A young man coming home with his salary was beaten and robbed (Qaji Mandi)

 

Late Tuesday night near Jalandhar Qaji Mandi, 7 robbers dragged a young man returning home from work after collecting his salary and severely beat him. As per reports, the victim is currently under treatment.Then Rs 5,000 of his salary and documents were snatched from his pocket.

 

Monu, a resident of Lamma Pind, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital, said that the said robbers hit him several times in his “sensitive area”. He runs his household by working as a labourer. His mother and younger brother live at his house, while his father has passed away. He is the only earning person in the house. Near Qaji Mandi, seven unknown robbers stopped and assaulted Monu with sharp weapons. After this the accused fled from the spot.
