Taking stern action against the immigration consultant allegedly accused of deportation notices to nearly 700 Indian students in Canada, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh on Tuesday cancelled the license of firm M/s Education and Migration Services, Green Park Jalandhar issued to Rahul Bhargava on August 30, 2019. The action has been taken under section 4 and 6 of the Punjab Travel Professional's Regulation Act 2014, which invokes cancellation of license, if a firm is found involved in any criminal activity.
In an order passed today, the deputy commissioner highlighted that anyone not having clean police record can never be permitted/allowed to carry out this business, and if such person is allowed to continue its business activities, it will send a wrong message to the public; thereby the license issued to the above mentioned consultancy is cancelled with immediate effect. ''A person/firm to whom the license for travel agent is to be granted by the competent authority should be enjoying a good reputation and unblemished image not only at the time of filling application for license but later as well i.e. even after issuance of license'', reads the orders.
Notably, Section 4 and 6 of the act deals with the cancellation of license making it clear that whenever the competent authority receives information that a license is involved in any crime as per police record which is a violation of terms and conditions of the license, the competent authority may cancel the license. These provisions being clearly applicable on the firm, the deputy commissioner has cancelled its license by passing a written order. Earlier, the license of this firm was suspended by the administration and a show-cause notice was issued to the accused seeking his clarification on the FIR registered against him.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner issued directions to conduct thorough checking of immigrations firms in the district. He said that special teams have been formed under the monitoring of SDMs to regularly check the activities of immigration consultants. The DC reinforced that any kind of malpractices on the part of immigration consultants would be highly unwarranted as strict action would be initiated immediately by the district administration. He said that the district administration is keeping a close vigil on the activities of immigration firms and no one would be allowed to cheat or defraud people through illegal actions. He also urged all the licensed firms to conduct their business as per provisions of the Act and not to indulge in any activity/practice that causes harm to others.
