Jalandhar,February 2- The Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Tuesday visited theSurjit Hockey Stadium where a coaching camp is being organized for last 125days at Burlton Park.
Impressedfrom the massive participation of the young players for last four months,Deputy Commissioner who is also president of the Surjit Hockey Society laudedthe role of society for holding coaching camps for last almost four decades.
Hesaid that Surjit Hockey Society was playing a vanguard role for grooming theyoung players through such camps and told that this society has producedseveral players who have proved their mettle in national and internationalevents.
DeputyCommissioner further said that society has been making every effort tochannelize the unbounded energy of youth positively especially in the field ofsports.
Thorisaid that society has laid the foundation of a great movement aimed at therevival of the national game by imparting world-class training to youth.
Hesaid that Society Hockey Society has been organising international-leveltournaments in memory of Olympian Surjit Singh and helping poor and needyparents to get their children married as well as providing scholarships toneedy players.
TheDeputy Commissioner also paid homage to Olympian Surjit Singh and announced afinancial grant of Rs 1 lakh to the society.
Prominentamong present on the occasion included Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira, IqbalSandhu, LR Nayyar, Ranbir Singh Tut, Olympian Rajinder Singh, Prof Kirpal SinghMatharu, Surinder Bhapa and others.
