In the Swachh Survekshan 2023 survey, the Government of India honored multiple states and cities for keeping itself clean compared to others. Madhya Pradesh's Indore bagged the title of cleanest city in India for the seventh consecutive time. However, this time the award at the top spot was shared by Gujarat's Surat. Notably, Punjab was seventh on the list in terms of cleanest states, however, there was only one city in Punjab that was under 100 ranking in terms of the cleanest cities. Jalandhar, which is among the major industrial hubs and hotspots of many known personalities lagged behind at least 11 cities in the state.

Talking about Jalandhar's Swachh Survekshan 2023 ranking, the soon-to-be smart city was at 239. Notably, there were 11 to 12 cities in Punjab that the survey found cleaner than Jalandhar. Mohali was the cleanest city and it ranked 82. Below is Punjab cities ranking in Swachh Survekshan 2023-

Jalandhar's Swachh Survekshan 2023 degrading ranking reason

It is pertinent to mention here that in the year 2022, Jalandhar's ranking was 154 in the same survey. However, just within a year, Jalandhar's Swachh Survekshan 2023 ranking reached 239. It means Jalandhar toppled by 85 rankings. Now, the question arises as to why Jalandhar's Swachh Survekshan ranking were degraded so much? As per reports, there are 1830 points in garbage processing, in which Jalandhar has got 1 point in disposal of Wariana dump and zero points in garbage processing.

Talking about Swachh Survekshan Survey, since 2016, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been conducting Swachh Survekshan, the largest global survey on urban sanitation and cleanliness. This initiative has played a crucial role in promoting healthy competition among towns and cities, motivating them to enhance their service delivery to citizens and work towards establishing cleaner urban environments.

Out of 446 cities that were adjudged in the one lakh-plus population category, Mohali was placed at 82
