Jalandhar district administration organised play ‘jang-e-saragarhi’ to pay tributes to martyrs

125th anniversary of Saragarhi battle, the District Administration organised a play ‘Jang-e-Saragarhi’ at local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, where artists of Punjab Art Theatre displayed the unparalleled bravery and courage of 21 Sikh soldiers of 36 Sikh regiment on September 12, 1897.

The Artists exhibited the sequence of Saragarhi Battle and how the Sikh soldiers fought bravely rather than surrendering before more than 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.

The ‘Jang-E-Saragarhi’ directed by the renowned Director Harbaksh Singh Lata explained the various aspects of battle in a very touching combination of incidence at that time. A troupe of 40-artists got applaud from the gathering at the successful conclusion of Maha Natak.

MLA Raman Arora, MLA Sheetal Angural and Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh and other dignitaries also met the members of Punjab Art Theatre.

Besides paying tributes to Sikh martyrs, the Administration also presented a shawl to the descendant of Martyr Ram Singh, who born in village Kandola of Jalandhar district and member of 21 Sikh soldiers at that time. The shawl was received by Rajwinder Kaur Thiara.

The Administration also thanked the organisations Bharat Petroleum, PKF, Patel Hospital, H.R. Industries and SAVI international for their contribution in making this endeavour a success in commemoration of martyrs.

Pertinently, the last stand battle was fought at Saragarhi on September 12, 1897, where 21 Sikh Soldiers forced over 10,000 Afghans to stay aback for over six hours.
