Jalandhar Major Drug Bust: Know how Jalandhar CP nabbed an international drug racket

Commissioner of Police, Swapan Sharma described it as the biggest haul of drugs ever recovered by the Commissionerate Police in the city.

In a major crackdown against drugs, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma has busted an international drug racket by arresting three persons and recovering 48 kilogram heroin from them.

 

Divulging the details, the Commissioner described it as the biggest haul of drugs ever recovered by the Commissionerate Police in the city.  He said that on a tip off the Commissionerate Police had organised special checking in the city during which a Toyota Innova car with number PB08-DS-2958 was stopped near Y-Point Bhagat Singh Colony Bypass. However, Mr Swapan Sharma said that the driver attempted to flee from the spot but the police managed to stop the car and upon search of vehicle 8kg of heroin hidden in a bag inside the vehicle was recovered.

 

The Commissioner of Police said that the Police immediately arrested driver identified as Satnam Singh alias Babbi s/o Gurdev Singh r/o Village Dhandiyan PS Banga District Nawashehar now tenant at H.No 141/8 Subhash Nagar near Partap Chowk Hoshiarpur and a FIR was registered against him. He said that during the investigation it came into light that the accused was associated with Aman Rozi and her husband Hardeep Singh in the drug network. Swapan Sharma said that acting on this information, the police nabbed both suspects from the Nakodar Jalandhar road, where a substantial quantity of 40kg of heroin was recovered from them adding that in total Rs 21 Lakh Rupees Drug Money, three vehicles including Toyota Innova, Mahindra XUV and Hyundai Verna along with one Cash Counting Machine has been recovered from them.

 

The Commissioner of Police said further inquiry revealed that Satnam Singh had a previous involvement in a drug-related case in 2017, leading to his contact with a larger drug network while in Hoshiarpur Jail adding that after securing bail, he connected with major drug kingpins and began ordering heroin in large quantities. He said that in 2023, Satnam’s son Manjit Singh was arrested in connection with another drug case in Jammu, leading to the recovery of significant amounts of drugs, money, vehicles, and other assets. Mr Swapan Sharma said that Hardeep Singh, the son-in-law of Satnam Singh, played a key role in distributing heroin across various districts, often using multiple vehicles for transportation.

 

The Commissioner of Police said ghat Aman Rozi, Hardeep Singh's wife, also participated in the distribution activities and maintained meticulous financial records. He said that police has successfully disrupted a multi-country drug network with international connections spanning Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Canada, as well as a local network operating in Jammu-Kashmir and Gujarat. Mr Swapan Sharma said that massive efforts are afoot to nab the kingpin Navpreet Singh Nav, of this extensive network.
