In a move to enhance public safety and maintain law and order, the Commissioner of Police, Dhanpreet Kaur, has issued a series of strict orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023. These new regulations aim to tighten security in hotels, motels, guest houses, wedding venues, and residential areas.
According to the new guidelines, no owner or manager of any hotel, motel, guest house, or inn will be allowed to accommodate any person or passenger without proper identification. Each guest must provide a self-attested photocopy of a valid photo identity card issued by the competent authority as part of the registration process. Additionally, the mobile number of each guest must be verified, and the details of all guests must be maintained in a designated register. The register must be sent to the police station by 10 a.m. every day, and the police station will verify the records every Monday. The police can access these records if necessary.
Furthermore, the police have instructed that any foreign nationals staying in hotels, motels, or guest houses must be reported to the Incharge of the Foreigners Registration Office at the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate. In addition, all hotels, motels, guest houses, and inns must install CCTV cameras in the corridors, lift areas, reception counters, and main entrances. If any suspicious individual, wanted by the police, stays at these establishments or if a guest is arrested by police from another district or state, the hotel or guest house owner will be held responsible for immediately notifying the concerned police station or police control room.
The Commissioner has also issued a directive banning the carrying of any type of weapon—such as baseball bats, sharp weapons, pointed objects, or any deadly weapon—inside vehicles within the jurisdiction of Jalandhar Commissionerate. Additionally, any processions, gatherings of five or more people, or the carrying of weapons in public functions or processions have been prohibited.
In a further move to ensure safety at social events, the Commissioner has prohibited carrying weapons at any wedding functions or social programs held at marriage palaces, hotels, and banquet halls within the Commissionerate limits. The owners of these venues have been instructed to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras in their premises.
In a related development, the Commissioner has issued an order requiring landlords, tenants, and PG owners in Jalandhar to report any servants, workers, or tenants in their properties to the nearest Punjab Police Saanjh Kendra. This measure is being implemented to improve security and ensure public safety.
Additionally, all firecracker manufacturers and dealers in the Commissionerate area have been mandated to print the sound level (in decibels) on the packaging of their products to prevent excessive noise pollution.
These orders, effective from May 6, 2025, to July 5, 2025, are part of ongoing efforts by the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, maintain law and order, and prevent any untoward incidents during the period.
