Big breaking news has come to the fore from Jalandhar. The Punjab Roadways Contract Employees have started a protest at the PAP Chowk in order to get their demands fulfilled from the government. The drivers of the buses have jammed the whole Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road. The traffic of the whole city has come to a halt due to the staged protest. The police officials have reached the spot to pacify the whole situation.
The demand due to which the protest is being held is that the employees are not being regularized by the government. They stated that they have been working for the department for the last 10-15 years but are still temporary employees. Furthermore, they said that a lot of promises were made by the AAP during elections but still have not been fulfilled.
The protestors said that the government is being double-faced. On one hand, they are talking about abolishing the contract hiring system while the government itself is employing people on a contractual basis. Also, the employees are upset with the fact, they have to wait for months to get the salary for their hard work.
The head of their union has stated that they will not end the protest till the time their demands are fulfilled by the government.
