Police stopped people and farmers who were going to hand over a demand letter to the Governor in protest against the demolition of houses in Jalandhar's Latifpura in Punjab.

However, during the escalation of the brawl, a farmer fainted, and the protesters were coming towards the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium taking out a joint rally. The police stopped them from going ahead by placing barricades. The situation turned tense on the spot. People remained adamant about demanding to go ahead, but the police did not listen to them. After this people resorted to laying down on the road at the sight.

The protesting farmer’s convoy headed towards the Governor’s house from Motipura towards Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on foot and in vehicles. The farmers were holding black flags in their hands to protest against the demolition of their houses. Although the police swung into action as soon as they got to know this and the force were deployed on Cool Road.

The farmers wanted to meet the governor. The police officials told them that the Republic Day program was on and they could not let them go there, informing once the program finishes it should take time to meet the Governor. However, farmers didn’t comply with the police’s appeal and were asserting to let them meet the governor as they had to hand over the demand letter to him.

Although the verbal struggle turned violent and led to a fierce scuffle between the police officials deployed and the protesting farmers owing to which a farmer leader fainted leading to the escalation of the protest.
