According to Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Jalandhar tops the ranking of Smart Cities in Punjab and holds 24th position in India. Despite being a Smart City, there are certain issues that locals have to face on a regular basis. One such problem is the deteriorating condition of roads. Certain roads like Kapurthala Road, Model Town Road, Ladowali Road need to be repaired on urgent basis as road menace in the city leads to traffic jams, delay in reaching destinations, increase in threat of accidents, etc.

Astha Singh, a resident of Urban Estate said, "I face a lot of problems due to the poor condition of roads. The traffic jams due to damaged roads lead to increased commute time to office."

Aman Sharma, a resident of Model Town said that people face several problems because of the potholes. He has witnessed accidents happening in front of his eyes because of damaged roads.

True Scoop interviewed the Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) IAS Jaspreet Singh and learnt that the city will witness well-constructed roads by August 2023. He stated that certain pipelines, wires and cables for CCTV installation have to be laid till June 23. As soon as this work gets completed, the repair work of damaged roads will be initiated and within a few months, people will experience well-constructed roads in the city. DC’s statement comes as a relief for locals who have to struggle daily due to road menace.
