What is the Hit-and-Run law?

According to the central government, the truck driver responsible for a major accident involving hit and run can face upto 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of upto 7 lakhs INR. The transporters came out in numbers to oppose this ruling saying that the accidents are not deliberate and that the sentence is too harsh. They also argued that the fine could not be realistically paid by them taking their salary into account hence the law should be revised.
