Punjab and other states of North India have been witnessing an intense summer for the past many days. The maximum temperature in Punjab is continuously breaking the 40°C mark. The current summers in Punjab have now started to ring alarm in the state. The intensity of the summer in Punjab can be understood by the fact that on May 19, 2025, Jalandhar recorded a higher temperature than Dubai, one of the world’s hottest cities. As of 3 PM, Jalandhar sizzled at 39°C (with a high of 40°C), while Dubai, known for its desert climate, registered only 36°C.

Why does the Dubai comparison matter?

Dubai, located in the United Arab Emirates, is globally recognized for its extreme heat, often reaching up to 45°C during peak summer. Comparing a city like Jalandhar, located in the fertile plains of North India, with Dubai underlines how abnormally intense the current heatwave in Punjab and surrounding regions has become.

According to the weather forecast from Apple's weather app, Jalandhar is expected to see scorching temperatures of 42°C from Wednesday to Friday, with night temperatures also hovering around 28°C to 29°C, offering little relief. Meanwhile, Dubai will continue to experience slightly lower daytime highs, ranging between 36°C and 40°C, with relatively cooler nights compared to Jalandhar this week.

Dr. Naresh Batla, talking to True Scoop, urged residents to take serious precautions. Dr. Naresh Batla, a renowned physician, warned, "This level of heat can trigger dehydration, heatstroke, and serious health issues, especially for children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Avoid unnecessary exposure and ensure continuous hydration."

Dr. Batla also recommended Jalandhar residents to stay indoors during peak heat i.e., 12-4 pm, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and wear light and breathable clothing.
