Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has urged citizens to buy with restraint and thoughtfulness. He asked people not to engage in panic buying. He ensured that, as per the Punjab Government's instructions, the district administration is strongly with the people to deal with any type of emergency.
Dr. Aggarwal pointed out that there is no cause for panic or fear. He stated that during emergencies, the Punjab Government provides all kinds of support and help to the public. He assured that the Jalandhar administration is well-equipped to handle any such situation.
The Deputy Commissioner clarified that hoarding of necessary commodities or any other commodity will not be allowed. He said that anyone who is found guilty of hoarding or black marketing will be dealt with strictly according to the law. He also instructed the DFSC to keep strict watch against hoarding and to prepare a list of those buying in bulk with malicious intent, to be presented to the administration.
Furthermore, Dr. Aggarwal also urged citizens to take mock drills seriously in the future. He said that short-duration drills would be held in such a way that lights and traffic signals are switched off. He asked citizens to turn off inverters and generators at home or make sure no light escapes through doors and windows. All unnecessary travel must be avoided, and any cars on roads should pull over on the side of the road with their lights turned off.
Dr. Aggarwal directed that even if sirens are sounded without any advance warning of a mock drill, citizens must immediately implement practiced safety measures. He told residents to not pay heed to rumors and adhere to all government advisories rigorously. Stringent action will be taken against anyone disseminating false information.
In the meanwhile, on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, DFSC Narinder Singh visited some stores, including D-Mart. The store managers have been directed not to sell in bulk quantities to individuals and to persuade people to purchase only what they need. On a regular basis, announcements are also being made at shops to request people to shop responsibly.
