The STF wing of the Punjab Police on February 9 conducted raids to unearth an international drug racket and arrested Kapurthala-based international kabaddi player Ranjit Singh, alias Jeeta Maur, retired Jalandhar-based DSP Vimal Kant and Manish. In the recent development, the STF team has issued a clean chit to DSP Vimal Kant on Friday.

The STF team was investigating the matter for the last three weeks. From Vimal Kant’s mobile details to persons associated with him, every detail related to him was cross-checked. ADGP STF Chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu appointed inspector Harbhajan Singh to closely investigate the matter. In the investigation, it was found that when Vimal Kant was working, he had filled the case against all big drug suppliers.

After retiring as an SP last year, started serving as a legal advisor to the real estate business of Jeeta Maur. Vimal Kant used to get salary for his services and the amount gets credited to his account. When the matter is brought to the notice of Chief Harpreet Singh, he informed inspector Harbhajan Singh to file a discharge sheet for Vimal Kant in court. The application was accepted by Kapurthala court and he was given a clean chit on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jeeta Maur and Manish have filed a bail application in court on Friday. The court has issued a notice to the STF team. Hearing on bail plea will take place on March 9.

STF team has registered a case against a total of 12 people involved in the drug racket who were in contact with Jeeta Maur on February 9. A case has been registered in Mohali. Luxurious vehicles like BMW and AUDI have been confiscated from the bungalow of the accused.

Apart from vehicles, STF has seized some weapons, 100 grams of intoxicant and several lakh rupees from Ranjit’s house. STF has also seized a laptop and cash of about 3 lakh from the house of Manish posted under Jeeta’s security.
