Topping class 12 of Jammu and Kashmir Board for Aroosa Parvaiz took a horrific turn when she was subjected to online trolling and death threats were issued against her on social media for not wearing Hijab (Head Scarf). Aroosa Parvaiz topped class 12 in the science stream of the Jammu and Kashmir Board with a stellar 499 marks out of 500. As soon as the result was announced, congratulatory messages poured in for Aroosa Parvaiz and her family. However, Aroosa Parvaiz and her family's happiness did not last long as a section of social media users started trolling her and some also issued death threats for not wearing Hijab in the photo which was shared online.

After the trolling intensified, Aroosa Parvaiz broke her silence and slammed the trollers for threatening her for not wearing Hijab. Furthermore, Aroosa Parvaiz stated that wearing Hijab does not define her as the headscarf does not define one's belief in religion. Talking to Kashmir Observer, Aroosa Parvaiz said, "These comments don’t matter to me but they’ve taken a toll on my parents."

"Wearing or not wearing Hijab doesn’t define one’s belief in their religion. Maybe, I love Allah more than they (trolls) do. I’m a Muslim by heart not by hijab," added Aroosa Parvaiz.

Notably, the following incident came at a time when the Hijab row is spreading across India from Karnataka.

Karnataka Govt extends holidays in College amid Hijab row

The Karnataka government has extended holiday for all the universities under the Department of Higher Education and colleges under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) till February 16 in view of the Hijab row, announced Minister of Higher Education Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana while requesting everyone to maintain law and order. The holiday starting from February 12 up to February 16 is applicable for government, aided, unaided degree colleges, diploma, and engineering colleges.

The following order came after the Supreme Court of India refused to hear urgent pleas relating to the Hijab row and stated that it is "watching" what's happening in Karnataka and in hearing before Karnataka Hgh Court.

About HIjab Row

In December 2021, four students belonging to a particular community were denied entry into the classroom for wearing hijab (headscarf). The students accused the Principal of the pre-university college of taking such a step and also claimed that they were made to sit outside of the classroom at the stairs and even marked them absent. However, the Principal denied the claims of the students and had stated that the students made the allegations under the influence of some vested interest groups. After the row over Hijab intensified and students from another section started protesting wearing a saffron scarf, Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh had emphasized the need for a uniform dress code in order to avoid such incidents in the future.

After months of protest, a petition was filed by students of the Government Pre-University College for Girls, Udupi, demanding permission to attend classes while wearing 'hijab'.
