Why is World Music Day celebrated?
‘World Music Day’, also known by different names worldwide like ‘Make Music Day’ in the UK and ‘Fête de la Musique’ in France, was initiated in ‘1982’, when ‘Jack Lang’, the ‘Minister of art and culture’, proposed the idea at the ‘French Ministry of Culture’ to let people enjoy free music everywhere. The purpose of this day is to celebrate music and encourage all professional and amateur musicians to perform and make available all genres of music to the public. This day is celebrated on 21 June every year in different ways worldwide, which consists of free concerts, tribute to legendary music artists, creating and distributing music and many more.
For 2025, the theme for the day is 'Healing Through Harmony,' which connects music with therapeutic powers and emotions. Currently, more than 120 countries acorss the world celebrates the day to highlight the importance of music and learn different types and ways of music.
Why is International Day of Yoga celebrated?
‘International Day of Yoga’, celebrated on June 21 every year, is an initiative that aims to transcend borders and unite people to promote holistic well-being and transform yoga into a widespread movement that emphasises global health and peace. This day has been celebrated since the year 2014, when, due to its noteworthy benefits, the UN, recognising its significance and widespread usage, proclaimed June 21 as a date to mark the commemoration of yoga. This year, it would be the 11th International Day of Yoga, organised by the ‘Permanent Mission of India to the UN’, which would take place at the ‘North Lawn area of the UNHQ’.
