In a concerning development, three junior doctors from the Government Medical College in Amritsar have tested positive for COVID-19, confirming the presence of the new JN.1 variant in the region. All three doctors are currently in home isolation and are reported to be in stable condition with no severe symptoms. Health officials have advised the public to remain cautious and wear masks, especially in crowded areas. The Health Department has also urged individuals experiencing symptoms such as cough, cold, or fever to consult a qualified doctor promptly and get tested for COVID-19.

A health official informed, “Two COVID patients came on Friday, and three arrived yesterday. Four of them work at the medical hospital in Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. One was a gynecology patient who complained of fever and tested positive. None of them have severe symptoms, so they have been home isolated.”

Officials have reassured the public, saying the JN.1 variant is not considered dangerous. “There’s no need to panic. The symptoms are mild, just like a regular cold or cough. Recovery usually happens within 4–5 days with basic medication like Crocin,” the official added.
