Myanmar is undergoing a military coup. However, as pervarious reports, coup is successful after a time-period of seven days. As perreports, the Junta is blocking Facebook on the pretext of 'stability' onThursday.
Meanwhile, Aung San Suu Kyi is still under detention andpolice have filed charges against her. Antonio Guteres, the United Nation'sGeneral Secretary urged the world to make efforts to fail the coup attempt inMyanmar.
As per reports, Suu Kyi faces charges for illegallyimporting communications equipment after the Army took over the government anddeclared one year emergency in the country.
Myanmar, also known as Burma was earlier also ruled bymilitary until 2011. India has also expressed 'deep concern' over the eventsunfolding in Myanmar. According to reports, blocking of Facebook is an attemptto muzzle the dissent or opposition of people against the military coup.
Facebook has also informed that the access to Facebookand its other platfroms such as WhatsApp and Instagram is restricted.
UN General Secretary, Antonio Guteres said he wouldpressurize the army in Myanmar to relinquish democracy. While speaking to theWashington Post he said, "We will do everything we can to mobilize all thekey actors and international community to put enough pressure on Myanmar tomake sure that this coup fails."
Guteres added, "After elections that I believe tookplace normally and after a large period of transition, it's absolutelyunacceptable to reverse the results of the elections and the will of thepeople."
