Under NSA, Dr Kafeel Khan charged for anti-CAA remarks

On Friday, under National Security Act (NSA), Gorakhpur doctor Kafeel Khan was booked for voicing out anti-CAA remarks at the Aligarh Muslim University on December 12,2019.

Although, four days back he was granted bail, but could not be released from jail in connection to his inflammatory speech during the protest and now has been slapped with NSA. 

SP Crime Dr Arvind said that there were enough grounds to book the doctor under NSA.

Adeel Ahmed Khan, brother of Dr Kafeel Khan had issued a statement saying that despite being granted bail, Mathura jail has not abided the court's order.

UP Special Task Force had arrested Dr Kafeel Khan from Mumbai on January 29 for taking part in anti-CAA protest at AMU. In Civil Lines police station, a case was registered agaisnt him for voicing inflammatory words which might create disparity and enmity between different religions.

After his arrest in Mumbai, Dr Khan was brought to Aligarh and then was moved to the neighbouring jail of Mathura. This shift was done as a precautionary measure, keeping in view the anti-CAA protests on the AMU campus and at the Eidgah grounds in the old city. Police had said that presence of Dr Khan in the jail would have aggravated the situation of law and order in the city.
