The magistrate Court of Mumbai has sought a progress report into the case of posting allegedly "hateful tweets" by actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel.

According to the complainant, Kangana and her sister tweeted in April last year that demonstrated "hate against Muslim community."

The magistrate court had asked the Amboli police to conduct inquiry into the case in October and asked to submit the progress by December 5, 2020. The police missed two deadlines. While it failed to file a progress report on December 5, the extended date of January 5 was also not honored.

The police had asked more time from the court on Friday. After this, the complainant asked them to submit the process under Section 204 of Code of Criminal Procedure.

The trial might start because the process is issued when prima-facie the allegations are found to be true and the accused is given a legal notice.

Ali Kaashif Deshmukh, the complainant said was quoted by Scroll.in as saying, "“During the hearing I led a reply stating that the police was already given a final chance on the last occasion.” He added, "I have given them my statement, an electronic evidence certificate under section 65B of the Evidence act, details of the accused, as well as witnesses.”

Now, the matter will be heard on March 4.
