Javed Akhtar's defamation complaint against Kangana Ranaut: Kangana Ranaut yesterday celebrated her birthday. But just before her birthday, Kangana has got a setback from the court.

Kangana Ranaut had appealed before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate that she should get a permanent concession from appearance in the case of writer Javed Akhtar.

But the court has rejected her appeal. Kangana did not reach even the hearing of this case on Tuesday.

The court, while rejecting Kangana's appeal, said that if needed, the actress will be given concession from appearance in the court only in certain circumstances.

What was the Case

This case is of 2020 when writer Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut. After the sudden demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020, Kangana had told famous writer Javed Akhtar in an interview to be associated with Bollywood's 'suicide gang'.

Kangana had said that she is part of the gang that instigate 'outsiders' to end their lives. A few days later, Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut.

After this case, Kangana also complained to Javed Akhtar. In this complaint, Kangana had spoken of 'extortion and criminal intimidation on Javed Akhtar.

Kangana had said in her complaint that she had gone to Javed Akhtar's house with her sister Rangoli Chandel in 2016. At that time the news of Kangana and Hrithik Roshan's affair came to the fore. Kangana had alleged that Javed Akhtar called her home with "malicious and malafide intentions" and "criminally threatened her".

The court said on this petition that she would be given an exemption to appear in court only in special circumstances.  In this, the consent of both the complainant and the accused will be seen.  The court has now adjourned the hearing in this matter till April 7.

It is worth noting that a Mumbai court had issued a bailable warrant against actor Kangana Ranaut in March last year for her non-appearance in a defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar.

The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court had on February 1 issued summons to Ranaut and directed her to appear before the court on March 1.

After Kangana did not appear in the court, Magistrate RR Khan issued a bailable warrant against the actress for hearing the matter. She was listed for 26 March. Later, Kangana appeared in court in this matter.
