Kangana Ranaut tweets a mixed response as Tanishq takes down the Hindu-Muslim interfaith advertisement mentioned in yesterday’s #BoycottTanishq trend

“The concept wasn’t as much a problem as the…”, says the actress featured six times in the Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list

Tanishq took down its advertisement which had upset a large number of people. The advertisement showed a Hindu woman as wife of a Muslim man, and the husband’s family was getting ready to celebrate their baby shower. The baby shower was being arranged as per Hindu rituals.

May be it were the utter disbelief the woman expressed on her religion’s customs being observed, and her unbounded gratitude that rubbed many people the wrong way.

The company which itself is a huge brand, and has juggernauts Titan and Tata Group behind it seems to have been caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

In the contemporary world of real-time mass communication in the hands of everyone with a mobile or computer, and an Internet connection, there is no wriggling out of this one without upsetting at least some of the communities.

Actress Kangana Ranaut commented on her Twitter handle, “The concept wasn’t as much a problem as the execution was,the fearful Hindu girl apologetically expressing her gratitude to her in-laws for the acceptance of her faith, Isn’t she the woman of the house? Why is she at their mercy? Why so meek and timid in her own house? Shameful.”

Thus, the actress approves of the interfaith marriage in our secular nation.

However, the actress too seems to have taken offense at the body language. She claims that the execution of the idea is the problem, and uses words like “apologetically”, “gratitude”.

She raises the question that why is the Hindu woman so “fearful”, and challenges that is she not the woman of the house, and probes the reasons why she seems at the “mercy” of her family.

The actress seemed unable to understand why a woman was so “meek and timid in her own house”, and finally concluded as “shameful”.
