Congress leader Kapil Sibal slams BJP over Delhi violence, recalls Vajpayee's advice of Rajdharma

Following the remarks of BJP on Congress leaders in wake of Delhi violence, the Congress has now responded to the government's advice seeking it to avoid moral lectures--particularly referred to a news conference in the wake of the 2002 Gujarat riots where former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee told Narendra Modi to follow 'Rajdharma.' At that time, Modi was the chief minister of the state.

Let's recapitulate what's has been going around over Delhi violence.

Initially, the Congress asked President Ram Nath Kovind to move Modi government to follow its "rajdharma" practice in the deadly hour of communal violence which had erupted in the Northeast Delhi, earlier this week, killed more than 40.

Union Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Friday asked the Congress not to preach rajdharma to the government and accused its leaders of hypocrisy and of making provocative statements.

However, Kapil Sibal could not resist himself for not saying anything on the matter and on Saturday he tweeted, "How can we [preach rajdharma] Mr Minister? When you did not listen to Vajpayee ji in Gujarat, why would you listen to us? Listening, learning and obeying rajdharma [is] not one of your government's strong points!"

The communal violence, which had hit hard northeast Delhi in recent days, Congress on teh matter has alleged the Centre government for being unable to deal with the situation. The party had also sought resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, submitted a memorandum to the President and accused the Centre of trying to shelter their BJP leaders who gave hate speeches, thus, transferred a judge of the Delhi High Court. However, the government was seen stuck to its point and called transfer a routine.

Meanwhile, pleas have been moved in Delhi High Court, accused the Gandhis of making hate speeches, and have asked that FIRs be filed agaisnt them.
