Kapurthala Police bust inter-state drug racket, two drug peddlers arrested

SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the police have been keeping a close vigil on the activities of narcotics smugglers active in Kapurthala.

In a major crackdown against the drug menace, the Kapurthala police on Sunday busted an inter-state racket of smuggling of poppy husk and arrested two peddlers after seizing 270 kg of poppy husk from a truck.

 

The arrested accused have been identified as Gurcharan Singh son of Sukdev Singh resident of Chandan Nagar, Kartarpur and Sandeep Singh son of Bhajan Singh resident of Bhagiwal,Mehatpur.

 

Divulging more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the police have been keeping a close vigil on the activities of narcotics smugglers active in Kapurthala.


He said checking teams were formed under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Kapurthala, a team led by DSP Sultanpur Lodhi Sarwan Singh Bal constituting Incharge CIA staff Kapurthala Surjeet Singh and SHO Sultanpur Lodhi SI Harjit Singh .

 

SSP said that during patrolling, the police party was on its way to village Rampur Jagir from Sultanpur Lodhi police station in connection with the search of the anti-social elements.  He said that about 2-km from Sherpur Dona towards the road leading to Main GT Road Kala Sanghia, cops found six persons filling sacks in a truck bearing number PB-10-CY-9581. He added that acting swiftly, the police party rushed towards them to check the truck and spotting the cops, four of them got into the Innova car and fled away but the police successfully nabbed remaining two including Gurbachan and Sandeep and recovered 270 kg poppy husk from the truck.

 

SSP said that all accused have been booked under various sections of NDPS Act in a case registered at police station Sultanpur Lodhi . Besides, the police parties have been conducting raids to nab the remaining accused.

He added that the accused would be produced in the local courts and would be taken on remand for further interrogation and to arrest the remaining members of the racket.
