The movie by Dharma Productions, Dhadak 2, raises issues about caste and discrimination in society. The movie was initially scheduled to be released in November 2024, but it has been delayed to March 2025 because of the delays recorded during the certification process. Dhadak 2, featuring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, will now be finally released in the year 2025 on August 1.
During the trailer launch of the movie on Friday, producer Karan Johar spoke openly about the burden and burden of responsibility of conveying stories that are socially relevant in the mainstream format (even on sensitive themes).
Talking of Dhadak 2, Karan Johar said that though Dharma Productions has always been synonymous with a particular kind of glamorous, feel-good cinema, the studio has also deliberately made an effort to change. How we always attempt to do things that are different, take stories that count, and do them as sensitively as possible," said he.
In Dhadak 2, the crew selected a topic that had to be addressed in the first place. Nothing can make a change better than art. Cinema is a suggestive medium, and when people like us filmmakers fail to raise such issues and narrate such stories, then who will?
Karan Johar, who also produced the 2018 film Dhadak that introduced Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, said he is conscious of the hurdles such movies will undergo in the certification process, but he is not afraid of the backlash the film will get. But this was different during Dhadak 2 as he had a positive experience with the Censor Board. They were listening, very sensitive, and totally on board with the message that we wanted to get across. They negotiated in mutual respect, and it took a long time, but for the right reasons, he added.
The filmmaker also advised people not to be surprised by the reality of the film. What we can see in Dhadak 2 is very real. This story matters everywhere, regardless of the place you live, and it should be discussed.
Furthermore, while addressing the delay, Karan Johar stated, “Yes, it took time to reach cinemas, but we're proud that we told the story the way we imagined it. It's a love story, yes, but it says something powerful, and that matters.”
