Thousands of devotees took a holy dip at Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on April 14, 2021, marking the Maha Kumbh's 'Shahi Snan.'

The first 'Shahi Snan' at Maha Kumbh Mela took place on Mahashivratri on March 11 this year, followed by the second on Somvati Amavasya on April 12.

According to the Maha Kumbh schedule, four ‘Shahi Snan' and nine ‘Ganga Snan' will take place in Haridwar this year.

The Kumbh Mela is held four times a year in India: in Nashik, Haridwar, Prayagraj, and Ujjain.

There has been a huge increase in COVID-19 cases across India, and in light of the pandemic, this year's Kumbh has been shortened to one month instead of four. To ensure that the coronavirus infection spreads as little as possible, restrictions and a night curfew have been implemented.

According to the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, 15 April 2021,  over 2 lakh new COVID-19 cases brought India's overall coronavirus count to 1.40 crore.
