Kartavya Path Inauguration: With PM Modi's grand opening today, a brief look at the redeveloped historic 'Rajpath'

During the time of its announcement, while the country was grieving through the wrath of COVID, the much-celebrated project from the central government remained under a load of controversies.

Today near about two years down the line after much planning, roadblocks, and anticipation the renovated Central Vista is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

PM Modi will inaugurate the 3 km-long ‘Kartavya Path’ which was renamed after ‘Raj Path. During the event, PM will also unveil the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the India Gate.

Ahead of the much-celebrated launch today a brief look at what new does the 'Karvatya Path' brings along:

The idea behind renaming and revamping the erstwhile Rajpath to Kartavya Path was to showcase an attempt to "remove any trace of colonial mindset."

Erstwhile Rajpath now upon redevelopment will have the basic amenities such as public toilets, drinking water facility, street seating, and parking space, along with redeveloped signage, improved water feature maintenance, and more.

The PMO in its report said that the aim behind the redevelopment was to hold the Republic Day Parade and other national events in a smooth manner and thus a much more organized and spacious look.

The Kartavya Path will include beautiful landscapes, a lush green arena, lawns with pathways, much-developed canals, signage, and vending kiosks.

The redeveloped path will now have upgraded night lighting, rainwater harvesting, water conservation, and energy-efficient lighting systems.

Apart from this the Statue of Netaji which will be unveiled at the India Gate is made up of granite. The statue stands 28 feet tall and weighs 65 MT. It has been made by Arun Yogiraj.

Owning to the inauguration event being done by the Prime Minister, the city police has announced the traffic alert marking diversion from 6 PM to 9 PM starting at the C-hexagon to Bhagwan Das Road crossing, Purana Quila Road, Shershah Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Pandara Road, Shahjahan Road, Akbar Road, and Ashoka Road.
