A college student in Kerala died in the early hours of June 30 after being bitten by a dog and receiving rabies treatment a month ago. On May 30, Srilakshmi (18), a resident of the Mankara neighbourhood in the Palakkad district, was bitten by a dog as she was travelling to college.

She was a first-year student at a college in Coimbatore where she was studying for Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA).

After receiving an anti-rabies vaccination, Srilakshmi initially exhibited no symptoms. Later, when she started experiencing symptoms, she was first sent to a private hospital in Mankara, Palakkad.

She later received treatment for her high fever at the Thrissur Medical College two days ago.

The hospital subsequently declared that she had all rabies symptoms and started treating her accordingly. But on June 30, Srilakshmi passed away.

According to sources, the dog even bit its owner on May 29 before biting Srilakshmi the following day. According to reports, the owner's health is stable.

The Lyssavirus genus includes the rabies virus. After being exposed to a rabies-infected animal, people are given an anti-rabies vaccine. Four dosages are administered over the course of a few weeks.

After properly cleaning the wound with soap and water and administering a tetanus toxoid injection, the person who has been bitten by an infected animal should take the following immediate action. The vaccine is then administered.
