The secessionist movement demanding the establishment of Khalistan has been brewing up on a rapid scale in the recent past among societies based abroad.

The US-based secessionist group SFJ, whose establishment is based on the ideals of carving Khalistan out of the Indian territory has gained momentum for its cause and has sorted to organize the referendum in different parts around the globe to mobilize people for their cause.

In that line, one similar move was initiated on the 18th earlier this month in Brampton among the Sikh community that saw the involvement of around 10-12 thousand people taking part in the plebiscite, which came even amid the opposition of the Indian authority.

The plebiscite and sudden expedition of the Khalistani’s call in Canada have left family and relatives of those based in Canada in grave concern. Every year thousands of Indians especially from Punjab move toward Canada for better opportunities.

And with the rising movement from pro-Khalistanis, pressing their demands in different pockets of Canada with referendums and agitations has left people in a state of grave concern for their loved ones abroad.

“My son left for Canada around 7 years back, he has been doing well there. The call for Khalistan was not so huge in magnitude earlier but it has turned grave now, It concerns me for the security of my son based there,” says Rajinder Sodhi a local businessman who is extremely terrorized by the massive development of secessionists viewpoint in Canada.

Canada has been turning out to be an epicenter not just for the Khalistanis but for the gangsters as well. The matter is turning worse with no sufficient crackdown coming in from the concerned Canadian authorities who are letting these movements go marking it as freedom of expression.

Chairperson for the National Commission of Minorities Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura has also leveled this development as a matter of concern saying, “It is a problematic development, the Indian government is closely watching this development to crackdown over those involved as the suitable time comes.”

Another resident Dilbagh Singh whose half of the family stays in Brampton, where the latest incident took place said, “I have also stayed there for years the matter was never so tensed and grave as it has turned today. Except for myself and my wife, all of my children are staying there, I fear about them, where will this movement leads to.”

Prakash Singh whose son left for Canada a year ago has been planning to call his son back as the movement brews he said, “I can’t take any form of risk, My family, my son is everything to me I can’t risk his life for the sake of better education, I will look after his degree here itself. The situation in Canada is turning worse anything might happen.”

The movement which started some 93 years back is evolving into a massive ideology now with organizations like the SFJ and Babbar Khalsa have been making this movement grave by mobilizing people in different forms. The incident is endangering thousands of lives abroad, especially from Punjab, which sees the migration of thousands every year.
