A massive political uproar was created when senior Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh, Raja Pateria in his speech urged party workers and the audience to "kill" Prime Minister Narendra Modi if they want to "save" the Constitution. Raja Pateria's 'Kill PM Modi' remarks video soon went viral on social media and netizens were stunned by his remarks. In fact, Raja Pateria's remarks on PM Modi also started a political faceoff between the BJP and the Congress. After the video went viral, Pateria was quoted by multiple news portals clarifying that by "killing" he meant "defeating", but that has hardly helped.

After the video went viral, the Madhya Pradesh government has reportedly ordered a police case against Pateria, a former state minister. Notably, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan targeted Rahul Gandhi and was quoted saying in a video: "The real face of those pretending to do a Bharat Jodo Yatra is coming out."

In his viral remarks, Pateria tells what appears to be a gathering of party workers: "Modi will end elections, Modi will divide on the basis of religion, caste, language; the lives of Dalits, tribals, and minorities are in danger. If the constitution is to be saved, then be ready to kill Modi."
