Yesterday, the election for the President and other posts for Shri Durgyana temple was held. It is considered to be the biggest temple in Punjab. BJP leader and former minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla won the election and became the President of the Durgyana temple.
Laxmi Kanta Chawla won the presidential election of Shri Durgyana Temple by securing 496 votes. She has become the first woman head of the Shri Durgyana Mandir Management Committee by winning the election through voting. Her opponent and Congress party supporter Ramesh Sharma got 350 votes.
Laxmi Kanta Chawla is a former cabinet minister from the Punjab government and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was a college lecturer before coming into politics. During the Punjab Assembly Election 2022, BJP did not give her a ticket to contest the election.

It is said that she has a good relationship with Aam Aadmi Party nowadays. Earlier, during Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's visit to Amritsar, she met him. This month, she also met AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.
