Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organizes Farmer Training and Awareness camp

A Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an agricultural extension center in India. The name means "farm science center".

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana organized a farmer training cum awareness camp at its campus under the scheme AICRP on Agricultural Meteorology.

Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the experts and farmers/farmwomen present during this camp. He discussed in detail about direct seeding of paddy (DSR) and other water conservation technologies. Dr. Bons exhorted the farmers and farmwomen to whole-heartedly support the cause of saving of water in campaign mode starting from the household level to the field. He also stressed on the need to adopt soil test based fertilizer use and use of biofertilizers in paddy and maize crops for soil health management and for curtailing cultivation costs.

On this occasion various technical lectures were delivered by experts from PAU, Ludhiana and KVK Hoshiarpur.

Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Principal Scientist (Agrometeorology), Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana shared the impact of climate change on cropping systems and also asked the farmers to follow the weather advisories for scheduling of different farm operations.

Dr. Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Principal Agronomist, Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana discussed in detail the improved cultivation practices for paddy and maize including integrated weed and nutrient management.

Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK Hoshiarpur, discussed in detail about the IPM in kharif crops and particularly the management of fall armyworm of maize.

Dr. Kanwarpal Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), KVK Hoshiarpur, addressed the farmers regarding animal nutrition and summer management of dairy animals.


In the end, progressive SC dairy farmers and beekeepers were provided cattle feed and honeybee colonies under the project.
