The nationwide lockdown has been extended for a further period of two weeks with immediate effect from May 4, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Friday. The third phase of lockdown will continue till May 17. The guidelines have permitted considerable relaxation in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones.

Things to know about life and work under two more weeks of lockdown, as per MHA guidelines:

Liquor Shops:

MHA on Friday allowed the sale of liquor across the country, even as it extended the lockdown period for two more weeks beginning May 4. The sale of liquor is part of the overall opening of economic activity that the government is attempting in the third phase of the lockdown, and is expected to earn states much-needed revenue.

However, there are still some restrictions on the sale of liquor.

Except for the red zone, where there is strict perimeter control and almost total ban on public movement except for emergencies, liquor stores will open everywhere.

In Green Zones, liquor stores will open everywhere except those in shopping malls, as malls are shut. This will apply to both rural and urban areas

In Orange Zones, districts where COVID-19 case concentration is very low, liquor stores will open everywhere in the same way as they will open in Green Zones.

E-Commerce Service:

As per MHA, e-commerce will be allowed only for essentials on Red Zones. In Orange and Green Zones, e-commerce will be allowed for both essential and non-essential goods. The sources also added that the issue of allowing or disallowing maids to resume work has been left up to the respective state governments and union territory administrations.

Cab Service:

Commercial taxis and cab aggregators including Ola and Uber will be allowed to function from May 4 in some districts, while shared cabs continue to remain suspended, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday.

In green zones public transport buses can operate at 50% capacity

People and vehicles are allowed only for permitted activities with a maximum of two passengers in four-wheeler vehicles, and with no pillion rider in the case of two-wheelers.
