Delhi’s week-long lockdown: Here’s what’s allowed and what’s not

In the wake of the new Covid-19 cases in the country and particularly in the national capital, the Delhi Chief Minister on Monday declared a six-day lockdown.

Arvind Kejriwal said, "In order to prevent a total collapse, LG Anil Baijal and I took this decision. And in this duration, essential services will be allowed and more beds will also be set up”.

"I won't say our health system has collapsed but it is at an alarming stage due to the resurgence," Kejriwal further said, adding the overall situation in the city was critical.

Here is the list of the exempted and restricted goods and services. 

  • Any national sports event can be organized but without spectators inside the stadium.
  • All employees of a private company have to work from home. 
  • Delhi government offices will remain close instead of those which provide essential and emergency services including banks, hospitals, medical stores, insurance offices, ATMs.
  • Religious places may be open but without devotees.

  • At the wedding, only 50 people are allowed, and at the funeral 20 people.
  • All malls, gyms, spas, swimming pools, salons, restaurants shall remain closed.
  • Any social, political, entertainment, sports gathering is prohibited.
  • Distribution of essential goods like food, fruits and vegetables, shops, dairy milk booths, newspaper distribution, meat, and animal shops is allowed. 
  • Public transportation such as buses and metros are allowed to function with 50 percent capacity. No standing is allowed. Autos and cabs will function with a capacity of two passengers. 
  • There is no restriction on inter-state as well as intra-state movements. No separate permission like an e-pass will be required. 
People allowed to travel during this lockdown:
  • Doctors, healthcare staff, journalists, judges, essential workers can move without any restrictions, with valid proof. 
  • Students who are applying for exams can travel without restrictions with valid proof. 
  • People going for COVID-19 vaccination and testing can travel without restriction.

Delhi on Sunday reported over 25,000 new cases. Meanwhile, India’s overall covid tally crossed 1.5cr with 2.73 lakh new covid cases reported in the last 24 hours.
