The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the General Elections in 2024, Voting in Punjab will be taking place during the 7th phase on June 1 with the date of counting on June 4. The field in Punjab will see a 4-way fight seeing as no alliance between the BJP and Akali Dal has been seen yet. Congress, BJP, AAP and Akali Dal will be battling out over the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
Recently AAP had announced 8 of its candidates for Lok Sabha from Punjab which were Amritsar, Khadoor, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala. Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Ferozpur and Gurdaspur are yet to be announced. BJP and Congress are also likely to announce their candidates. Akali Dal will be facing a tough challenge, contesting the elections solo after a long time.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Congress emerged the clear victor after winning 8 seats, while BJP and SAD managed to win 2 seats each. The first time contesting AAP were also able to win one seat for themselves.
Punjab has a total of 2,12,71,246 voters, including 1,19,29,959 male voters, 1,07,75,543 female voters and 744 transgender voters. A total of 24,433 polling stations have been set up for the 13 seats.
