New Delhi: The Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the government has no proposal to split the Fishing Ministry from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare.

Answering the supplementary questions from A Sampath of CPI-M during Question Hour, the Minister said it will not be proper to say that officials in the Agriculture and Fishing ministry lack knowledge about fishes and sea water.

He said: "We work in coordination with the states and in every state there are officials and well informed people about sea water and fishes".

He said there has been increase in investment from the government towards fishing sector. In between 2004-2014, Rs 200 crore on average every year has been invested but in last four years, the annual investment has been Rs 460 crore.

The Minister further said during last few years there has been increase in production of marine products and this had resulted in increase in exports as well.

Unlike throughout the Winter Session, there was normalcy in the House during Question Hour on Tuesday and listed questions pertaining to the Ministries of Food Processing and Disability Affairs were asked.

To a supplementary question, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said a national food processing policy will be brought out soon as the matter is still pending with the Union cabinet.
