Jalandhar: LPU has announced, today, that it will offer free education to the frontline workers and their wards, in case they get affected with COVID 19 while saving the nation from the infection. For the victims, (whether survivors or deceased) and their wards, a 100% tuition fee waiver will be offered as a token of LPUs gratitude towards their service for the nation. The university also announced scholarships worth Rs 20 Crore to support the workers involved in India’s fight against COVID-19 including medical professionals, policemen, media persons, administrative staff, railway and airline employees, bank employees, and others.
Chancellor of LPU Mr. Ashok Mittal shares: “If India has largely managed to stay safe from COVID-19, it is on the back of the massive efforts that our frontline workers have put in. We salute their commitment to put the nation’s cause ahead of their personal safety, when every day they go out to perform their duties. It would be an honour for us to have them or their wards study at LPU. The scholarship is just a small token of our appreciation for their service to the nation.”
The university has come up with 13 categories under which wards of India’s COVID warriors can apply for scholarships. The students looking to enroll this year can apply for scholarships under this scheme, along with the necessary documents/certificates, on or before June 30, 2020.
LPU and its students have already been working hard on making people's lives easier during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2020, LPU’s BTech student Prabin Kumar Das along with his professors created a small ‘IoT Pendant’ (Kawach), which is designed to promote social distancing. In April, another LPU student Anant Kumar Rajput, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Mandeep Singh and Project Officer Ruhul Amin Choudhury, from Student Research & Project Cell at LPU, developed a UV light racket to decontaminate surfaces and objects from the novel coronavirus. And, only a few weeks ago, another group of LPU students developed an ‘algae-based respirator’ to allow its wearer breathe better, while also strengthening the protection from the novel coronavirus as well as pollution.
