Lucknow: 'Hotel Levana' to be bulldozed after fire incident kills four; Owners booked in the incident

The Lucknow Development Authority has decided to demolish Levana Suites Hotel in Hazratganj after a fire break-out incident claimed the lives of 4 and left at least 10 injured.

The city police have detained two owners and its general manager for questioning in the matter. Whereas, the vice chairperson of the LDA Indramani Tripathy informed the media that the hotel will be sealed today (Tuesday).

For hours the rescue operations were on in the matter to check whether anyone is trapped or not, it took the firefighting team almost six hours to dowse the blaze yesterday. The treatment for the 7 injured is on in the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital.

While interacting with the press on the matter Joint Commissioner of Police Piyush Moradia said that they have registered a case against the hotel owners Rahul Agarwal, Rohit Agarwal, Pawan Agarwal, and the general manager Sagar Srivastava under IPC sections 304 and 308.

Lucknow Divisional Commissioner and Chairperson of the Lucknow Development Authority Roshan Jacob, “Prima facie, despite the lack of fire escape management system, and iron grilles on the facade, how fire NOC was given is a matter of investigation.”

Jacob went on to say through an official order, "The owners did not provide any map of the building approved as a hotel to the LDA. A notice was issued by the zonal officer on May 26, and another on August 28 as no reply was given. In this regard, the hotel be immediately sealed as per law and then be demolished.”

Effective disciplinary action must be taken against the officials who were involved in providing its nod for making the hotel operational, the LDA chairperson further ordered.

The Joint Commissioner of Police Mordia while interacting on the matter with the media said, "Hotel owners -- Rohit Agarwal and Rahul Agarwal -- and its general manager Sagar Srivastava have been detained for questioning. Police are registering a case in this regard under relevant sections."

Yesterday Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid a visit to enquire about the condition of the injured in the hospital. He also ordered a tripartite joint probe into the incident by the commissioner, Lucknow division, and police commissioner of Lucknow in the incident.
