Ludhiana Police arrested a two member gang involved in large number of ATM frauds

The gang had committed more than 30 such frauds in several places in Ludhiana and nearby areas. The gang members usually targeted elderly persons on the pretext of helping them in withdrawing money from ATMs.

The accused have been identified as  Sandeep Kumar alias Kala of Gurpal Nagar Ludhiana and Mohit Kumar alias Sumit alias Sunny of Daba Road Ludhiana.

Giving information about them, Commissioner of  Police Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal said the suspects had committed frauds worth lakhs of rupees after exchanging ATM cards of several gullible persons.

“The gang had committed more than 30 such frauds in several places in Ludhiana and nearby areas. The gang members usually targeted elderly persons on the pretext of helping them in withdrawing money from ATMs.

The gang would roam around the ATMs without security guards and offer help to illiterate or elderly people in withdrawing money from ATM and after the transaction the gang used to exchange their ATM with fake ATM of similar colour. They also used to take ATM pin number from the victims” said CP.

They used to exchange the card of unsuspecting victims with another one of same colour and then withdrew money from their bank account.

The police have recovered cash worth Rs 9000 and 9 ATM Cards of different banks.

A case under Sections 420 IPC has been registered against the accused at Jamalpur police station in Ludhiana and further investigation has been launched.
