Ludhiana  Police busted a fake surety racket and arrested four people for allegedly forging property documents to get over 50 undertrials involved in criminal cases out on bail.

Rakesh Agrawal Commissioner of Police Ludhiana said that the gang operated in various courts and would reach out to advocates offering to get surety for their clients for a fee.

“To do this, they identified property documents which are available online and which do not have any loan against them. They then created fake adhar card in name of that property owner to secure the bails for money. They also forged fake property documents and ID cards,” CP added.

The gang would then submit these forged documents before the court when an accused needed surety. “They charged anywhere between Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 depending on the case,” added Sameer Verma ADCP Zone 3.

The accused are Harpal Singh @ Manoj Kumar S/o Kamal Singh R/o Bharat Avenue Moti bagh Colony Village Phullawal, Ludhiana, Rahul Kumar S/o Dalip Kumar R/o Anand Vihar Phullawal, Ludhiana., Navdeep Singh S/o Kashmir Singh R/o Guru Nanakpura Civil Line, Ludhiana, Harwinder Singh S/o Phuman Singh R/o Talwandi Noawad, Ludhiana.

The racket came to light when police observed that there was a rise in the number of accused jumping bail. Subsequent warrants issued against them had the wrong address. The matter was brought to the notice of Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal who directed the local police to probe the matter. During the course of their investigation, the police realised that the scam was more widespread than initially thought.

All four accused were produced before court and remand has been taken for deeper probe.  “We are yet to determine if more people are involved in this racket,” said a senior officer.
