Ludhiana temporary government teachers climb water tanks in protest

The teachers boarded the water tank in Jawahar Nagar of Ludhiana demanding a permanent posting and higher wages

Demanding that the temporary employees be made permanent from the Punjab government, teachers boarded the water tank in Jawahar Nagar of Ludhiana. The police reached the spot in attempt to de-escalate the situation and to talk the employees down from the water tower. The teachers are protesting due to their dismal salary over a long period of time as temp workers. They are adamant on their demand of holding a meeting with the Chief Minister.

 

The teachers say that they were not confirmed by the government to be permanent employees and still they are forced to work on a meager salary of 6000 rupees. They also say that they have approached the senior officials at the departmental level several times, but every time their demands were taken for granted.

 

The teachers were adamant that they will not get off the tank until their demands are met. They also claimed that other teachers and their family members from different parts of the state are also arriving to take part in the protest.
