Additional Chief Electoral officer (ACEO) Harish Nayar on Monday chaired a meeting with representatives from various political parties to brief them about the process of nomination filing, ECI guidelines and other important election process for the Ludhiana West bye-poll.
Nayar said that as per the program issued for bye-elections, the notification of the bye-poll has been issued on May 26 (Monday). The last date for filing nominations is June 2 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on June 3, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 5. The polling will be held on June 19 from 7 am to 6 pm and the counting will be held on June 23.
He informed that nominations will be accepted between 11 AM and 3 PM and nomination paper can be submitted all days from May 26 to June 2 except Sunday, June 1, 2025. Poll time would be 7 am to 6 pm on dated 19.6.2025.
He further said that In order to qualify for a Assembly Constituency (Vidhan Sabha) seat, a candidate should be registered as an elector for any Constituency of that State. To satisfy the concerned Returning Officer on this point, candidates should produce a certified copy of the relevant entry of the electoral roll in force.
He said that Political parties and candidates are also required to publish candidates’ criminal antecedents three times in two different language newspapers. ACEO said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the concerned Assembly Constituency from the date of announcement of bye elections i.e 25.05.2025 by the Election Commission of India. Nayar urged all parties to cooperate for a peaceful and fair election process.
