Here are some of rituals you can perform during the eclipse period:

1. Try putting basil leaves in your food and drinks as it helps to decrease the negative effect of lunar eclipse.

2. Pluck a Tulsi leaf and before start of sutak period for pooja as it is considered inauspicious to pluck a Tulsi leaf for any purpose during eclipse.

3. While the eclipse is going on, it is best to sit in a secluded place and chant Gayatri Mantras

4. If possible, try donating grains, fruits, blankets etc. to the poor and needy.

5. The negative energies of lunar eclipse can get lowered down if you take bath with Gangajal.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when Sun and Moon are on exact opposite sides of our planet. Even though the Moon is in Earth's shadow, some sunlight still reaches the Moon, making it appear red. During a full moon eclipse, it appears red for the same reason that the sky appears blue to us. Sunlight passes through the Earth's atmosphere, where blue light is scattered in all directions due to its short wavelength. This allows red light to pass through and reflect off the moon.
