Alpesh Deshmukh, a lab technician in Maharashtra’s government hospital, who was arrested for rape and molestation, was sentenced to 10 years of jail for taking a woman’s vaginal swabs for a Covid test.
He was arrested in July 2020, for the charges of rape. After 17 months, a local court has announced this rigorous imprisonment for 10 years.
Swab samples for the Covid test are taken from the nose and throat. The accused told the victim that it was important to take samples from private parts for getting proper test results.
The woman told her brother about the incident. After which the two went to the doctors. The doctor said that no such Covid test is required to be done for Covid-19.
After this, the woman lodged an FIR against the accused at a nearby police station. The culprit was arrested by the police on serious charges of rape and molestation.
The woman worked at a shopping plaza in Amrapali. One of the staff members there tested positive due to which the entire staff was required to undergo a Covid test.
